Subaru Expects Further Sales Increases in 2010!
The Japanese carmaker may sell 230,000 vehicles in the U.S. next year compared with 215,000 this year, Chief Executive Officer Ikuo Mori, 62, said in an interview at the company's head office in Tokyo today. China sales may rise to 50,000 from 35,000, he said. Fuji Heavy, 16.5 percent owned by Toyota Motor, is considering local production in China as the nation's vehicle demand may rise to as much as 16 million units next year, Mori said. The maker of Forester sport-utility vehicles increased sales 84 percent in China in the first 10 months of this year as economic growth and subsidies boosted industrywide demand.
Fuji Heavy may choose a local partner to produce vehicles in China within a year, Mori said.
The carmaker rose 1.3 percent to close at 405 yen in Tokyo trading, compared with a 1.5 percent gain in Japan's Topix index.
Fuji Heavy raised U.S. sales of its vehicles, including the revamped Legacy sedan, by 14 percent in the 11 months through November even as industrywide sales in the nation dropped 24 percent.

Subaru Receives A TOP SAFETY PICK ON ALL VEHICLES!
Cherry Hill, N.J., November 18, 2009 – Subaru of America, Inc. today announced that it has been recognized as the only manufacturer with all vehicles named a TOP SAFETY PICK by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). “We are extremely pleased to be the only manufacturer with all vehicles named a TOP SAFETY PICK. This is an outstanding success and a tribute to the engineering that goes into Subaru products," said Tom Doll, executive vice president and COO, Subaru of America, Inc. “To have this recognition by the IIHS reinforces to our customers that we maintain the highest standards when producing vehicles that are safe, durable, reliable as well as fun-to-drive." “Subaru is the only manufacturer with a TOP SAFETY PICK winner in every vehicle class in which it competes,” said IIHS president Adrian Lund. “The vehicles that earn this designation are the cream of the crop for protecting people in the most common kinds of crashes, and they have electronic stability control for helping drivers stay out of many crashes altogether.”
The TOP SAFETY PICK recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting people in front, side, rear, and now rollover crashes based on ‘good’ ratings, which denotes ‘good’ as the top ranking status possible in Institute tests. Winners also must have electronic stability control.
people.
In the roof strength test, a metal plate is pushed against 1 side of a roof at a constant speed. To earn a good rating for rollover protection, the roof must withstand a force of 4 times the vehicle’s weight before reaching 5 inches of crush. This is called a strength-to-weight ratio. For an acceptable rating, the minimum required strength-to-weight ratio is 3.25. A marginal rating value is 2.5. Anything lower than that is rated poor.

We Did It Twice! AMAZING!
- Subaru First Automaker with two consecutive MOTOR TREND Sport/Utility of the Year Titles -
The Subaru Outback's victory follows the Subaru Forester's win for the 2009 award, making Subaru the first automaker to win two consecutive MOTOR TREND Sport/Utility of the Year awards.
MOTOR TREND editor-in-chief, Angus MacKenzie, said, "The 2010 Subaru Outback offers a unique combination of comfort, efficiency, versatility and value. It boasts car-like refinement, drivability and gas mileage on the road, yet is as capable in the rough stuff as all but the most off-road focused sport utilities. Thoughtfully engineered, cleverly detailed and competitively priced, the Subaru Outback is a terrific all-rounder with broad appeal."
"We are doubly proud and honored to receive the MOTOR TREND 2010 Sport/Utility of the Year award for the second consecutive year," said Thomas J. Doll, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Subaru of America Inc. "To win the 2009 award for the Forester was wonderful enough, but to have won for the 2010 Outback this year is truly an outstanding achievement. The Subaru Outback is an icon of performance and capability and was the original SUV alternative. Now with its improved power, economy and increased dimensions it is the complete package."
Speaking to Subaru of America's sales success as the top performing automaker of 2009, Doll noted, "The success of our business is founded not only on our outstanding products, but also on the commitment and dedication of our retail sales network and great sales and marketing programs. We are absolutely thrilled that MOTOR TREND has added their validation to the Subaru brand."
Priced from $22,995, and produced at Subaru's zero-landfill plant in Lafayette, Indiana, the all-new Subaru Outback is available with either a 170-hp 2.5-liter four cylinder boxer engine or a 256-hp 3.6-liter six-cylinder boxer engine. The 2010 Outback is built on an all-new platform featuring a 2.8-inch longer wheelbase (now 107.9 inches) that improves ride and interior space, especially rear seat legroom. The 2010 Outback also features increased hip and shoulder room.
Living up to Subaru's legendary safety record, the Outback offers cutting-edge safety technology, including Subaru's ring reinforcement safety system, front, seat-mounted side, and side-curtain airbags and ABS. Subaru Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system, which incorporates stability and traction control systems with a roll-over sensor, is also standard equipment.
The Subaru Outback was recently named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS).
To judge contenders for the award, MOTOR TREND's editorial staff conducted an exhaustive three-phase testing process. Phase one of the process includes a full tech check and weigh-in, then full track testing to establish baseline data for acceleration, braking, and handling. Phase two involves three days of road loops offering a range of road surfaces and traffic conditions to evaluate ride and handling, engine and transmission smoothness and responsiveness, wind and road noise, and ergonomics. A dirt-track section tests traction, stability, and braking control systems. In phase three the judges debate and deliberate. This year, the editors updated and expanded the judging criteria to six new categories:
Design Advancement - well-executed exterior and interior styling; innovative vehicle packaging; good selection and use of materials.
Engineering Excellence - total vehicle concept and execution; clever solutions to packaging, manufacturing and dynamics issues; cost-effective tech that benefits the consumer.
Intended Function - how well the vehicle does the job its planners, designers, and engineers intended it to do.
Efficiency - low fuel consumption and carbon footprint, relative to the vehicle's competitive set.
Safety - a vehicle's ability to help the driver avoid a crash, as well as the secondary safety measures that protect its occupants from harm during a crash.
Value - competitive price and equipment levels, measured against those of vehicles in the same market segment.
MOTOR TREND's Sport/Utility of the Year is not a comparison test and is only open to all-new or substantially upgraded vehicles that have gone on sale in the 12 months from November 1 of the previous year. MOTOR TREND looks for the pick of each year's crop of new SUV's, and does not revisit vehicles that have been on sale for the past few years.

SUBARU OF AMERICA REPORTS AN ALL TIME SALES RECORD!
Subaru of America, Inc. Reports All-Time Sales Records
- The Company Has Record Sales for Best Month Ever -
- Subaru Forester, Impreza and Legacy Break All Previous Records -
CHERRY HILL, N.J., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Subaru of America, Inc. today announced that it had the company's best sales month ever with a 52-percent increase in August sales. The company sold 28,683 units this August versus 18,932 units in August 2008 and had an 11-percent gain year-over-year. Subaru sales for August 2009 also showed a 31-percent increase over July 2009 Subaru sales, which was also a record month for the company.
Record-breaking results for three Subaru models include: a 76-percent increase in sales for the Subaru Forester with 11,870 units sold, a 30-percent increase in sales for the Subaru Impreza with 6,590 units sold and a 49-percent increase in sales for the Subaru Legacy with 3,569 units sold for the month. In addition, Subaru received the distinction of being named the only automotive manufacturer with 2009 "Top Safety Picks" for all 2010 models by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). To receive the "Top Safety Pick" designation, a manufacturer has to continually improve its crash safety requirements and each product has to be at the top level of crash protection in front, side and rear crash impacts.
"While the CARS program helped fuel our August results, the fact that this is our third consecutive record month reinforces that our products have connected with consumers," said Tim Colbeck, senior vice president of sales, Subaru of America, Inc. "Well before our success with the CARS program, we were having great results and I am confident that with the newly introduced 2010 Subaru Outback and Legacy models, we will continue to be successful."
"Subaru has the perfect products to capitalize in the ever-growing crossover utility segment with the new 2010 Outback and Forester models," said Thomas J. Doll, executive vice president and COO, Subaru of America, Inc. "In the sedan segment, we have an unprecedented opportunity to gain sales and market share with the all-new 2010 Subaru Legacy. The Legacy, built on an all-new platform with a longer wheelbase and increased width for greater interior room also achieves 31 mpg highway. When combined with those attributes and All-Wheel Drive technology, as is standard with all Subaru vehicles, we think it is the best overall value in the sedan segment," Doll continued.

SUBARU NAMED THE ONLY MANUFACTURER WITH 2009 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICKS FOR ALL 2010 MODELS!
PRNewswireCHERRY HILL, N.J.
CHERRY HILL, N.J., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The all-new 2010 Subaru Legacy and Subaru Outback have been named 2009 'Top Safety Picks' by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety.
To qualify for Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must earn the highest rating of "good" in the Institute's front, side, and rear tests and be equipped with electronic stability control. Criteria to win are tough because the award is intended to drive continued safety improvements such as top crash test ratings and the rapid addition of electronic stability control, which is standard on the Legacy and Outback.
"Building safe vehicles is one of the things our customers have come to know and expect from us," said Tom Doll, executive vice president and COO, Subaru of America, Inc. "To have this endorsement by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety for every Subaru vehicle in our line-up is a tribute to our engineers and reinforces to consumers that we focus not only on manufacturing fun-to-drive vehicles, but also vehicles that are durable and dependable."
"Recognizing vehicles at the head of the class for safety helps consumers distinguish the best overall choices without having to sort through multiple test results," says Institute president Adrian Lund.
About IIHS
The Institute's frontal crashworthiness evaluations are based on results of 40 mph frontal offset crash tests. Each vehicle's overall evaluation is based on measurements of intrusion into the occupant compartment, injury measures recorded on a Hybrid III dummy in the driver seat, and analysis of slow-motion film to assess how well the restraint system controlled dummy movement during the test.
Side evaluations are based on performance in a crash test in which the side of a vehicle is struck by a barrier moving at 31 mph. The barrier represents the front end of a pickup or SUV. Ratings reflect injury measures recorded on two instrumented SID-IIs dummies, assessment of head protection countermeasures, and the vehicle's structural performance during the impact. Injury measures obtained from the two dummies, one in the driver seat and the other in the back seat behind the driver, are used to determine the likelihood that a driver and/or passenger in a similar real-world crash would sustain serious injury to various parts of the body. The movements and contacts of the dummies' heads during the test also are evaluated. Structural performance is based on measurements indicating the amount of B-pillar intrusion into the occupant compartment.
Rear crash protection is rated according to a two-step procedure. Starting points for the ratings are measurements of head restraint geometry -- the height of a restraint and its horizontal distance behind the back of the head of an average-size man. Seats with good or acceptable restraint geometry are tested dynamically using a dummy that measures forces on the neck. This test simulates a collision in which a stationary vehicle is struck in the rear at 20 mph. Seats without good or acceptable geometry are rated poor overall because they can't be positioned to protect many people.

THE CASH FOR CLUNKERS (CARS) PROGRAM IS ENDING!
If you've even thought about exchanging your "clunker" for a new Subaru, come to Premier Subaru NOW to take advantage! Our participation in the federal Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS, otherwise known as "Cash for Clunkers") program WILL END tomorrow, August 21st at 6 pm.
According to an unofficial survey by the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), all of the $3 billion allocated by the federal government for this program has been claimed.
Furthermore, NADA released the following in a statement last night: "It is important to note that NHTSA (National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration, the agency overseeing CARS program) has confirmed elsewhere that if the program's money runs out before a dealer is reimbursed, that dealer will not be paid."
In light of these revelations, Premier Subaru will end their participation in the CARS program tomorrow at the close of business.
As one of the first dealers to begin participating locally, Premier has had phenemonal success with the program and has enjoyed seeing many happy customers exchange their clunkers for $3500-$4500 towards their new Subaru models. We will be glad to see as many more as can come down and get a vehicle before tomorrow at 6 pm.

-- The Company Posted a 34-Percent Increase in Sales for July --
Cherry Hill, N.J., August 3, 2009 – Subaru of America, Inc. today announced that it had its best sales month ever with a 34-percent increase in sales in July. The company sold 21,839 units this July versus 16,271 units in July 2008 and had a 4-percent gain year-over-year. Subaru sales for July 2009 also showed a 17-percent increase over June 2009 Subaru sales.
The introduction of the new 2010 Subaru Legacy and Outback vehicles kept the momentum going for the car company as it continues to outpace the industry. The Subaru Legacy posted a 34-percent increase, the Outback a 33-percent increase, while the Impreza posted a record sales month and the most gains with a 41-percent sales increase, with the Forester continuing to bring in strong sales with an increase of 36-percent, which also represented a monthly record.
“July’s record results built on the momentum we've established this year. The month started strong and gained momentum with the 2010 Legacy and Outback launches. We were in a position for a very good month already, but when the CARS program hit, things went to the next level,” said Tim Colbeck, senior vice president of sales, Subaru of America, Inc. “Our success this month reflects the strength of the Subaru model line-up. The Subaru Impreza and Forester models set monthly records while the brand new Legacy and Outback are off to a strong start.”

By the way, do we Gino up in the line again? I didn't know you could do 5th's!!!

PREMIER SUBARU WILL BE A CERTIFIED DEALER FOR THE CASH FOR CLUNKERS PROGRAM!
While Cash For Clunkers has been signed into law, the Department of Transportation has another three weeks to formulate the regulations for the law. Please stay tuned as we will be the first to provide you this information as we receive it.
Premier Subaru is also asking that consumers watch out for scams, as already, criminals and some unscrupulous car dealers are using it to dupe consumers. CNN Money reports that some "cash for clunkers" web sites are asking consumers to provide personal information, including names, addresses and social security numbers, so that they can "register" for the program. Other web sites tell car shoppers they will put them in touch with authorized "Cash for Clunkers" dealers in their area. Car dealers will have to register to participate in the program (Premier Subaru is doing so). Currently, the NHTSA hasn't even determined how the registration process will work. There will be NO NEED for consumers to register at all. Once clue that the websites are not real is that they use the name "Cash for Clunkers". That is NOT the real name of the program. The program is known as the Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS). NHTSA has set up an official website at www.cars.gov to provide information on the program.
Stay tuned to this blog as we will post updates as we receive them.

CHERRY HILL, N.J., June 29 -- Subaru of America, Inc. today announced the EPA fuel economy results for the all-new 2010MY Outback. The 2010 All-Wheel Drive Subaru Outback achieves up to 24 mpg combined and 29 mpg highway, even while interior volume is up over 7-percent.

Travis Pastrana and The Subaru Road Racing Team
It was great to attend the Subaru National Dealer Meeting in Washington, DC this past weekend (June 13, 2009). This was a great meeting since is conincided with the release of the all-new 2010 Subaru Legacy and Outback. Two amazing vehicles. Furthermore, it was great to see Travis Pastrana again. Of course, Travis is exceedingly cool and loves the Subaru product. He also takes the time to sign autographs (I think I have 5 of them now!) and even spoke with one of his largest fans, Stanley Nitkowski (who works for us) on my cell phone.
During the meeting, I also met Joe Aquilante, a professional racer turned team owner, of Phoenix Performance. This road race team has garnered multiple SCCA Club Racing National Titles with the STI platform and is currently campaigning the prestigious Grand American KONI Challenge series in a Street-Tuner-Classed Subaru Legacy 2.5GT Spec B. It was great to meet Joe and his entire team. I enjoyed seeing them race the Subaru at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut. If you have an opportunity, please check them out during this year's racing season.

AT LONG LAST, PROGRESS AGAINST WARRANTY MARKETING COMPANIES!
For over 5 years, I have written letters to the Office of the Attorney General here in the State of Connecticut, as well as other Federal and State agencies regarding the punishing tactics of various automotive "warranty marketing companies". These completely unrelated companies use abusive tactics in order to "scare" customers into believing that either the manufacturers' or dealer warranty has expired on their vehicle. At that point, they make a "full court press" pitch to sell these unsuspecting customers extended warranties for their vehicles.
Unfortunately, we have had customers that have purchased these warranties. The coverage, we have found, is basically non-existent. Furthermore, the cost they paid for them is extreme. I firmly believe in the value of an extended service agreement. However, it needs to be BENEFICIAL to the customer, not a "scam".
I am providing below a copy of an article from today's NEW YORK TIMES regarding some, long awaiting, federal action against these people. As always, I WELCOME your calls and emails regarding this subject. I appreciate all of you who have participated with calls to me.
Court Issues Order Against 3 Car-Warranty Marketing Firms
By JENNIFER 8. LEE
A federal court in Chicago issued a restraining order on Friday against three companies accused of aggressively making automated calls to sell car warranties across the country, the Federal Trade Commission announced.
The order, which also froze the companies’ assets, came in response to a lawsuit filed by the commission on Wednesday.
In legal filings, the commission said the robocall campaigns had brought in $10 million in sales as a result of the calls and mailings, which falsely gave people the impression that their car warranties were expiring.
The companies systematically dialed random numbers across the country, violating the National Do Not Call Registry, the commission said. The companies also regularly faked their own caller ID numbers, so it was unclear where the calls were coming from.
The two companies named by the commission are Voice Touch and Transcontinental Warranty, both operating largely out of Florida.
Judge John F. Grady of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois issued a temporary restraining order against Voice Touch as well as a business partner, Network Foundations, prohibiting them from making further calls. He also issued a separate temporary restraining order against Transcontinental.
Also named in the restraining orders are Christopher D. Cowart, the owner of Transcontinental; James and Maureen Dunne, the owners of Voice Touch; and Damian Kohlfeld, an owner of Network Foundations.
In freezing the companies’ assets, the court also appointed receivers over Transcontinental and Network Foundations to ensure that documents were preserved and assets not dispersed. The restraining orders are in effect until a preliminary injunction hearing scheduled for May 29.
Senator Charles E. Schumer, who himself had received a robocall on his cellphone, said, “For the first time in months, millions of New Yorkers and people across the country will finally have some relief from these annoying calls with potentially thousands saved from falling into this scam.”

2010 Subaru Outback Makes a Surprise Debut!
- Roomiest Outback Ever with New Levels of Comfort and Refinement
- Bold New Design Language Redefines Sport Utility Wagon
- New 6-speed Manual and CVT Transmissions for Outback 2.5i Models
- New 256-hp 3.6-liter 6-Cylinder Engine in 3.6R Models
NEW YORK, Subaru of America, Inc. made a surprise introduction today, revealing the all-new 2010 Subaru Outback® at its media conference at the New York International Auto Show. The fourth-generation of the World's First Sport Utility Wagon® is a roomier and more capable interpretation of the vehicle that launched the crossover trend 15 years ago. Distinguished by bolder and crisper styling, the all-new 2010 Subaru Outback delivers enhanced performance, comfort and economy with the introduction of an all-new chassis and the new Subaru Lineartronic™ CVT (continuously variable transmission). Capability is enhanced with a segment-first swing-out roof rail and crossbar design and an improved 8.7 inches of ground clearance.
The all-new 2010 Subaru Outback is smart-sized compared to other crossover vehicles, featuring mid-size interior volume in an easy-to-maneuver and off-road capable wagon body. Interior volume has been increased by almost 8 percent in a package that is actually shorter than the outgoing model. The wheelbase has been increased by 2.8 inches and improves rear seat legroom by almost 4 inches. A new rear double wishbone suspension improves chassis dynamics and rear cargo space. The 2010 Outback is 2 inches wider to improve passenger comfort, has more headroom and is more fuel efficient than the outgoing model.
The 2010 Outback, while still clearly related to its predecessors, marks a departure in design toward a new, bolder look. The 2010 Outback also has a greater road presence with a wider track and expressive wheel arches. Built on an all-new platform, the 2010 Outback has a 2.8 inch longer wheelbase, now 107.9 inches, for a smoother ride and increased interior space. Rear seat legroom is increased by nearly 4 inches to 37.8 inches. With a 2.0-in. increase in vehicle width, the 2010 Outback offers greater hip and shoulder room. Total passenger room is increased by 8 cubic feet, now 105.4 cu. ft., and maximum cargo capacity (with rear seatbacks folded) is up by 6 cubic feet to 71.3 cu. ft. The Outback also features a rear cargo area that is deeper and wider than in many small SUVs and easier to access through its wide aperture rear hatch.
Remarkably, the roomier 2010 Outback is almost one inch shorter than the previous model, due to reduced front and rear overhang dimensions. The new Outback is also four inches taller than the previous model, increasing headroom and cargo area height. The new packaging preserves the maneuverability, agility and parking ease that Outback customers value.
Building on the tremendous success of previous Outback models, the 2010 Outback caters to a wide variety of customer tastes and needs. The Outback line for 2010 will include three 2.5i models powered by a revised 170-hp 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Boxer engine. The efficient Outback 2.5i models offer a new standard 6-speed manual transmission, or the available Lineartronic™ CVT. Both transmissions help to improve acceleration, response and fuel economy. Three new range-topping Outback 3.6R models are powered by a new 256-hp 3.6-liter 6-cylinder Boxer engine teamed with a 5-speed electronic automatic transmission.
All Outback models for 2010 are equipped as standard with Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), which combines stability and traction control capability. The all-new electronic Hill Holder System, also standard on all models, holds the vehicle in place until the driver applies the throttle to pull away from a stop. Previous systems held the car in place for only a few seconds. Subaru is the only company that features Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive as standard equipment on every vehicle in its product line.

Congratulations to the "other" Bob Alvine
Dr. Lee, with the help of a few criminal investigators, police chiefs, district attorneys, friends and family of State's Attorney Arnold Markle launched the symposium in the memory of Arnold Markle, who always supported the need for post gradute training. Today, this ongoing annual tradition has become one of teh most celebrated training programs throughout the law enforcement community.
In honor of this great event in law enforcement, I thought I would copy below the welcoming comments from my dad, the "other Bob Alvine" for the symposium which starts on April 12th.
Dear Friends and Guests,
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science at the
University of New Haven, it is my sincere pleasure to welcome you to this year’s Markle
Symposium, proudly honoring the memory of the esteemed State’s Attorney Arnold Markle.
I want to thank you for attending the Symposium, and I congratulate you on selecting one of
the most acclaimed law enforcement seminars in the world.
The Henry C. Lee Institute was launched in 1997 following the work of a small group of individuals who created a strategic business plan for it. I was designated as chair of that group and vividly remember the Institute’s early days. It was a small initiative that grew with the help of the excellent leadership and reputation of Dr. Lee, and with grant funding and fundraising.
We are delighted that with the University’s support, the Lee Institute will be moving into a
beautiful new building on the University’s campus in 2010. A forensic museum and learning
center will feature, among other valuable documents, the largest archive of information available
on the slaying of Robert Kennedy, and other significant milestones in forensic science. It
will be a center for research and learning available to law enforcement professionals, forensic
scientists, educators, researchers and students. As chair of the Institute since its inception, I
am pleased to have been part of this one-of-a-kind resource.
I am honored to mark the enormous growth of the Markle Symposium from its inception
at the University to an event that grew so large we were able to move it off campus to these
wonderful facilities. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe has been gracious enough to offer their
convention facilities at Foxwoods Resort Casino in gratitude for some of the investigatory
work Dr. Henry C. Lee had done in the past for them.
I want to thank Dr. Henry C. Lee and our distinguished speakers who have made the Markle
Symposium such a success. I also wish to thank the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe at Foxwoods
for their hospitality and support. We are truly delighted to welcome Symposium participants
from all over the world.
Sincerely,
Robert Alvine, Chair of the Board, the Henry C. Lee Institute for Foresic Science

Autobody Issues? Its your car, your choice who will fix it!
A new law, effective this past January 1st, reinforces motorist's rights to have their auto repaired by a qualified, licensed, competent auto body shop of their own choosing.
Some repair shops that insurance companies refer policy owners to often charge less, but, that's because they may use substandard parts and cut corners on repairs so even consumer safety may be in jeopardy. Deceptively referring consumers to insurance company "preferred" shops has been illegal for decades, but, far too often the insurance companies have been able to bully unsuspecting consumers.
This new law is the rest of years of efforts by the Auto Body Association of Connecticut in conjunction with Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, to whom we and the motoring public owe our thanks.
Specifically, the new law requires that motorists who have been involved in an accident with vehicle damage must be notified that they have a choice of repair facilities. This notification must appear on insurance identification cards, on estimates supplied by the insurance company or repair shops, and also be clearly posted on signs in all body shops.
It's your car, your choice.
This is a giant step forward. It will go a long way to help educate consumers that they don't have to be afraid of insurance companies. It's your car, and your choice of where to have it repaired.
Now, its up to consumers to take advantage of this new legislation. Consumers still must have the courage to go to the repair facility of their choice. Don't be fooled by inaccurate suggestions of out-of-pocket costs or statements about repair delays.
A knowledgable consumer should call or visit more than one repair facility when in an accident, in order to learn which shop is qualified to repair your car properly. This is critical when you want to maintain the value of a vehicle after the repair, or, simply ensure that the safety features in your vehicle operate as designed.
Beware of low ball estimates! You have the right to a proper repair! The facility with the lowest estimate may base that estimate on using substandard, after-market parts, that are not authorized for use in many vehicles. Or, in many cases leave out necessary procedures needed to bring your car back to pre-loss condition. In fact, the warranty on many new cars will become void if the car is repaired with non-approved parts.
One last thing. We have seen some terrible repairs done by auto body shops. If you are in doubt, or, would like us to assist you in locating a reputable body shop near your home, please call us.

Subaru Designs Custom Impreza WRX STi For Rally Champ Travis Pastrana!

- Pastrana Won His Third Consecutive Rally America National Championship for Subaru in 2008
- Special WRX STI Fortified with SPT and STI Parts
- Carbon Fiber Hood and Rear Wing
- Custom Interior with High-Power Audio System and Xbox
Pastrana was already a motocross champion and X Games gold medal winner when he launched a rally career in 2003. He began driving for the Subaru-backed Vermont SportsCar rally team in 2004.
On August 5, 2006 Pastrana won the gold medal in the first rally car competition at the X Games and was signed to lead the new Subaru Rally Team USA in 2006. Pastrana secured his third consecutive Rally America National Championship driver's title with a win at the 2008 Rally Colorado round of the championship.
Pastrana WRX STI: Back-Road and Highway Star
Commissioned by Subaru, Vermont SportsCar started the Travis Pastrana WRX STI with a stock 305-horsepower 2009 Subaru Impreza WRX STI. Pastrana's new WRX STI delivers even sharper handling response than the stock model. An SPT front strut tower brace and SPT lower chassis brace help to further tighten handling response. The stock wheels and tires are replaced by BF Goodrich G-Force Super Sport A/S 275/35 ZR18 tires on Work Evolution XD-9 18 x 9-in. wheels in custom satin black. Red STI Brembo brake calipers with white "STI" decals are visible behind the spokes.
The rally-bred WRX STI exterior design lights up with custom yellow paint and graphics. The carbon fiber hood and carbon fiber rear wing are unique to the Pastrana's WRX STI. As on the stock production WRX STI, the functional hood scoop streams outside air to an intercooler. The Sport Mesh Grille is available for all WRX STI owners. Likewise, the STI front chin spoiler and the exhaust finishers are available through Subaru dealers. A set of PIAA 2100 HID driving lights and rally-spec mud flaps underscore the aggressive rally-bred design of the 5-door WRX STI.
Engine Compartment
Under its custom carbon fiber hood, this WRX STI is equipped with a number of modifications including a performance-tuned ECU and custom Down Pipe to unleash a bit more power from the DOHC 2.5-liter intercooled turbo Boxer engine. A turbo boost gauge facilitates tuning. The SPT billet aluminum battery hold-down and billet aluminum oil cap are rendered in the trademark SPT blue color.
Interior
The custom blue Alcantara interior upholstery, the trademark of the original U.S.-spec WRX STIs, is accented with Pastrana's traditional yellow piping and "199 Pastrana" embroidered logos in yellow thread to match vehicle exterior. Likewise, custom yellow stitching is used to accent the steering wheel, shifter boot and parking brake handle boot. An STI short-throw shifter provides an even more direct connection to the 6-speed manual gearbox. Carbon fiber patterned interior trim highlights the dash, doors and console. A rally map light and co-driver foot rest bring a bit of Pastrana's Subaru Rally Team USA car into his new street WRX STI.
During a rally, Pastrana listens to a continuous stream of navigation commands from his co-driver. In his new custom WRX STI, he can listen to anything he wants -- loudly. The audio system is based on an Eclipse AVN 6620 navigation/DVD/CD/MP3 stereo head unit and uses Kicker amplifiers and speakers, including:
Kicker ZX700.5 4x75 watt and 1x400 watt stereo amplifier
Kicker RS65.2 6.5-in. component speakers, front
Kicker RS56.2 5.25/6-in. component speakers, rear
Kicker Solo-Baric L5 10-in. subwoofer in a custom subwoofer/amplifier enclosure
An Xbox 360 is also mounted under the front passenger seat, rounding a package that is as entertaining as its owner. Pastrana and his co-driver can play the Colin McRae DIRT video game using custom yellow controllers.

Subaru: A Rare Bright Spot Amid Automakers' Gloom
By BILL SAPORITO
Subaru's customers are, the company admits, a little oddball. How else do you explain the fact that Subaru of America was the only car company to increase unit sales last year? Subaru buyers tend to be overeducated; they buy less car than they can afford and hang on to it forever. "They pay cash, and then you never see them again," says Tim Mahoney, Subaru of America's chief marketing officer. At least not for an average 7.3 years, when they return like migrating carbirds to buy another one. Recession or not.
You know, of course, that Detroit is on its knees. But Stuttgart, Tokyo and Seoul aren't faring particularly well either. Toyota's U.S. sales were off 16% last year. Yet Subaru was positive to the tune of 491 cars. The company sold 187,699 vehicles last year, led by value-driven models like the Forester SUV and Outback wagon ($19,995 to $22,295) and the muscled-up Impreza WRX ($24,995), a small sedan. (See pictures of the remains of Detroit.)
That's an increase of just 0.3% over 2007. But in a disastrous year for the industry, it boosted Subaru's market share to 1.92%, from 1.2%. In the auto industry, that's a huge increase — and a higher market share than Cadillac, for instance. Subaru did it without giving away the store too. For 2008, the company decided to roll back its list prices and back off the rebates. The sticker price of the 2009 Forester, for instance, was lowered to $19,995, from $21,295. "We had to bring down our incentive costs and stop selling based on the deal," says Tom Doll, executive vice president of the company, which is a division of Japan's Fuji Heavy Industries.
Loyalty can help you do that, and Subaru has leveraged its existing customers, who identify more with their cars than perhaps is healthy. "If you stop a Subaru owner at sporting event, ski slope, shopping center, they'll tell you, 'I love this car,' " says Mahoney. And being the opinionated-bumper-sticker type, they are more likely to recommend the brand than even Toyota or Honda owners.
Certainly, it's a perfect era for a car company that is green (it boasts zero-landfill production plants), safety-focused, and can deliver a fair amount of value and performance. In the snow belt regions of the Northeast and intermountain west, Subaru has long had a following because of its all-wheel-drive portfolio.
But Subaru has successfully expanded both its geography and demography, becoming a more national car company and getting a broader customer base.
To accomplish both, the company expanded its safety-first image to one that includes better performance and more fun. After all, who wants to motor around in the equivalent of all-wheel-drive bubble wrap? California, a vital auto market, discovered Subaru courtesy of models like the Impreza WRX. All-wheel drive is terrific in the Sierras, but in the Los Angeles Basin, it's more about performance, which the 265-hp, intercooled, turbocharged WRX could address. The muscle models scored well with younger drivers and allowed Subaru to get more exposure for its full line.
Having more than weathered the dreadfully bad 2008, Subaru officials aren't planning on lowering sales this year. At Detroit's North American International Auto Show, Subaru unveiled a concept car that will likely evolve into a midsize sedan version of its Legacy. And on a broader note, Doll says that more available credit and Barack Obama's stimulus package should get additional buyers into showrooms. Of course, if all else fails, there are always those folks who bought an Outback 7.3 years ago — and are ready to return.
